Icebreakers are important. We like them.
Yes, you should use an icebreaker -- but better still use an opener. An opener is actually better than an icebreaker. An opener does three things -- an icebreaker only two. An opener breaks preoccupation through involvement. It reduces tension through networking. And finally it is always relevant to the content.
